Author Guidelines

General information

Open Access peer-reviewed journal "Likars'ka sprava" publishes articles on the organization of health care and history of medicine, hygiene, biology and clinical biochemistry, therapeutic orthopedics and stomatology, ophthalmology, radiology, physiotherapy and phytotherapy, genetics, a neonatology, etc. With the development of medical science also are opening new divisions, for example nanomedicine. Articles submitted to "Likars'ka sprava" journal should be original and unpublished contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. Manuscript should be written in Ukrainian, Russian or English. Responsibility for the contents of the paper rests upon the authors and not upon the editors or the publisher. Authors of submitted papers should familiarize themselves with Copyright and Licensing terms and Privacy, Confidentiality and Informed Consent Policy.

All the materials have to be prepared according to the ethical standards in publishing.

It is advisable to send the titles of articles in advance to the e-mail address of the executive editor ferenets@i.ua for their timely submission for approval by the Scientific Council

Peer-review process

Reviewing (expert evaluation) of manuscripts of scientific articles is carried out to maintain a high scientific and theoretical level of the journal and to select the most valuable and relevant scientific papers. "Likars'ka sprava" journal uses Double-Blind Peer Review. The review process is free of charge. More details on the peer-review process.

The journal does not accept any forms of plagiarism and has its own special criteria for its identification. The journal uses software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts: Detector Plagiarist, Antiplagiat, eTXT. Manuscripts in which plagiarism or textual borrowings are found without reference to the original source are rejected by the editorial board for publication in the journal. More details on Journal's Plagiarism policy.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

The cost of publishing a scientific article includes: 1 black-and-white journal page (equivalent to one page of A4 format in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman font, font size 12, line spacing 1, all margins 2 cm) – UAH 290; digital object identifier (DOI) – UAH 80; the cost of UDC (if necessary) – according to the rates of the Book Chamber of Ukraine; tax – 5 %.
The printing of color illustrations is agreed separately.
The publication of articles in English in 2022-2024 is encouraged with a 50 % discount from the current price (145 UAH/page). Reviews of scientific articles, books, monographs, etc. are published free of charge.
Each author and co-author has the opportunity to order 1 copy of the journal at cost price.

Submission of papers

A submission must include the corresponding author's complete name, academic degree, academic ranks; affiliation and address, phone, e-mail; ORCID ID, ResearcherID, NBUV ID & other. Manuscript preparation

The article should be signed by all authors andacompanied by a formal referral from the institutionwhere the work was performed. It is obligatory to specify the phone number by which the editors are able to contact the authors of the article (phone number will not be published).

While writing the article, it is preferably to follow the rules of “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” whiсh are developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors — see ICMJE.org.

Articles post under the following headings: literature overview; original researches; help to practitioner of medicine; environmental problems and health of the nation; a problem article; actual article; consensus article; example from practice; experimental research; hygiene; health care organization; diagnostic and treatment technology; military medicine; medicine and education; medicine and sport; medicine and law; corporate medicine; materials of congresses, conferences, forums; medical history; jubilee; obituary, etc.

The file with the article must be submitted in Microsoft Word format, preferably in the Rich Text Format – RTF extension (it is also possible in doc or docx). Font Times New Roman, size – 12 or 14, line spacing – 1 or 1.5, without tabulation and hyphenation. Regular fields – default. All special characters are entered using the "Insert / Symbol" commands.

Tables, pictures (graphics, diagrams) or schemes should be placed in the text, at once after reference to them (in round parentheses).  Photos should be clear, contrasting. The illustrative material must have a title (in the tables and schemes – at the top, in the pictures- at the bottom). The legend in the pictures should be shown below the picture after the main title, using the colon. If the picture consists of several fragments, they must be designated by letters in italics – a, b, c, with the obligatory decryption under respective picture. Excluding cases when color print is obligatory, it is preferable to provide drawings in the black-and-white image. Under the caption of microphoto it is necessary to specify the method of coloring and degree of increase.  Notes could be specified under the table or in the picture’s caption.

Tables should be compact and their cover should exactly match the content of the graphs. The figures in the table should be the same to the ones in the text and processed statistically.

Highlighting of the text is allowed in bold, italic, or bold italic (without underlining). The rubrics in the text to be marked in bold.

Title of the Article

The Institution that provided an article (whole name of Institution), in case of mentioning about the cathedra, academic title and surname of the Head of chair of this Institution to be provided in the brackets. If the authors work in different institutions, such institutions need to be numbered and personalized, that is, put the corresponding number next to each surname (in upper case).

E-mail address for feedback (will be published).

Annotation in the language of the article (Ukrainian, Russian, English), key words. Volume – no more than 1800 characters (with spaces). Key words must be identical in all summaries, from 3 to 10 for indexing articles in the searching system.

All other annotations execute as follows: the title, the authors (city, country), the text of annotation, key words.

Concerning an annotation in English, after the title and the authors are mentioned (surnames should be in line with foreign passport or as it was mentioned in previously published materials; in case the author publishes  first time and has no foreign passport, it is necessary to use PMU 2010 transliteration standard or Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 dd. 27.01. 2010 “About the order of the transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet to the Latin one”), to specify the Institution (official name in English) or several ones,  then tonumber and fix them with correspondent number in upper case near surname of the author who works in mentioned Institution. The authors of articles bear their responsibility for correctness of spelling surnames.  Kindly draw your attention to the fact that citation statistic of publications in international scientometric systems depends on correctness of data submission. 

The text of the annotation in English should be structured: goal, materials and methods, results and their discussion, conclusions (Aim, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions), keywords (Key words). You can use thesaurus of the National Medical Library of USA(Medical Subject Headings – MeSH) to select keywords in English.

All annotations should be informative and briefly transmit the content of publication and the results of performed research (in case of an article with original research).

Depending on the type of work (literature overview, original research, help to medical practitioner, case from practice, etc.), the article has a rubric (introduction, purpose of the research, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusions) or not. The text of the article should be stated precisely, concisely, understandably, the designations of various measures, units of physical quantities, the results of clinical and laboratory trials should be given in accordance with the International System (SI), the terms should be unified, given the International Histological and International Anatomical Nomenclature, the names of diseases taking into account the International Classification of Diseases X revision, medicines – taking into account the State Pharmacopoeia (X, XI).The name of the companies and devices must be given in the original transcription. International names of pharmacological preparations should be presented or their active substance to be indicated.

It is necessary to indicate the type in description of experimental research (in accordance with the International Biological Nomenclature), gender and number of animals, method of sacrifice or taking material for laboratory research in accordance with the Rules of humanistic treatment with experimental animals. Statistical methods that were used to process experimental data as well as the information on compliance with ethical standards and approval of the conduct of research by the ethics committee should be obligatory specified in the section “Materials and Methods”.

Generally accepted and used often terms in the text should be presented in the form of an abbreviation  (the first time to be unscrambled obligatory). Abbreviations of individual words are not allowed (an exception for generally accepted abbreviations of names of units of measurement, physical, chemical, and mathematical extents).

At the end of the article, the authors mention the information about conflicts of interest and funding, could express their thankfulness to the individuals and organizations that contributed to the publication of the article or the creation of illustrations to it, but are not its authors.

The list of literature to be numbered with obligatory reference to the source in square brackets in the text. In the first place, the sources of literature to be published in Cyrillic, then – in Roman alphabet (in the original transcription).

In the bibliographic description the authors to be indicated (if less than four – all, if five or more – three, etc.), the full name of the article or book (the abbreviation is unacceptable). If there is the reference to the book, the following information to be added after its name – the city, the publisher, year of publication and the total number of pages. For example:

The name of journal should be specified in case of reference to the article (word’s reducing in accordance with the catalog of the MedLine database names or its full name to be specified), year, issue and number, pages from and to.

Attention! The list of references (References) in Roman alphabet (transliteration) should be provided additionally, as well as doublication of the list of sources in the main list of references in Cyrillic, but formatting to be done in accordance with the requirements of international databases: the names of all authors to be mentioned in the source, the title of the article, the name of the publication in italics, days off, the language of the article [Ukrainian] or [Russian], the unique numeric identifier DOI (in case of applicable to the article). Punctuation marks to be set according to foreign bibliographic standards. For example (APA):

Thus, the list of references is submitted in two versions – according to the requirements of DSTU 7152: 2010 and the CBE standards. The statistics of citing publications in international scientometric systems depends on correctness of submitted data. In order to simplify the task, you can use the systems of automatic transliteration and translation on the sites: https://www.grafiati.com/uk/transliteration/ – for the Ukrainian and https://www.calc.ru/transliteratsyya.html – for the Russian.

The editors’ office carries out of scientific and literary editing.

The authors who have overdue debts could publish their articles only after the debt has been repaid.

The editors’ office has the right to reduce and edit submitted articles. If necessary, the Editors’ office could return the article to the authors for revision. Rejected manuscripts are not returned. Articles published in other edititons are not accepted for publication. Reprinting of articles is possible only after the written confirmation of the publisher and obtaining of a link to the authors and the journal.
